What are we going to do

Come for a historical old town walk with me. I am a licensed tour guide, but I promise, it will not be a boring history class!

We start in front of the oldest house of Rauma, the church. We go to see its treasures.
We walk along the much-loved Rauma river, that looks so narrow these days.
We visit the yard of the fisherman’s house and we talk about how they made their income. Yes, bobbin lace was an important source of income. We stop at a lace shop to see, how bobbin lace is done. The lady comes to show this just for you!
To get there, we pass the narrowest street of Finland. Imagine drunk seamen going home late, holding on to its walls.
We talk about the times when the town was surrounded by a customs fence. Or when people were forced to move to live in Helsinki.
We pass the town hall and we go to see, where the richest man of Finland was born. The medieval crooked streets of the precious UNESCO wooden town of Rauma take us to the last stop, which is the oldest restaurant of Rauma.

This is an opportunity to get to know the other foreigners living in Rauma.
Come join us for a cup of something on the terrace of Amarillo. Make new friends and make a joint holiday plan for the coming long weekend!

Start: 16.00 Pyhän Ristin kirkko. The Holy Cross Church. Luostarinkatu 1, 26100 Rauma

End: 17.30 Amarillo. Savilankatu 1 (across the street from the cinema)

About Rauma guide Kairi - the Doer

A licensed tour guide helps to spend a memorable relaxed time in a small wooden town of Finland. You do not want this to be a history class, but you want all the fun details from the past.

I bring you to the life it was 100 years ago. Imagine living the life of a seaman's wife. Raising the kids alone for many many years. How do you manage financially? What is your day like without an electricity? I mix the past and present, to get you there.

I was a tour guide in Tallinn, Estonia over 20 years ago. After graduating the university, I did a lot of cooperation with businesses and finally moved to live in Rauma because of my family.

I want to concentrate to only what is important. What makes me and you feel good about this day. We can be spontaneous. If it rains, we explore the city indoors. We meet and talk to other local people. We drive around on a car, if you are tired.

I am an authorized Rauma tour guide. It took me a year to study Rauma history, dates, houses, monuments and business life. But I am especially fond of old pictures and people in there.

As a foreigner I see what is different compared to other countries, other nationalities. As a former journalist, I know how to put these thoughts into words.

I have a car (and a taxi bus with a driver on request).
I can guide in several languages and I have a microphone on request.

Upcoming events

15 spots available
Available in English · I advertise the tour on my own Facebook page as well, hence the number of participants here might not be correct. The event this Thursday comes too soon, but I thought we have so many lonely local foreigners that need this kind of an event. We made a questionnaire and it turned out foreigners need more events in English and they want to get to know other people.
I hope this will be the start of Thursday Mingles.
