What are we going to do

Licence to pick! Rising interest in local food has boosted the popularity of pick-your-own berries in Finland. The best time for strawberry picking is July and early August. In Finland berry picking is part of a leisurely day out in the country for many families. At Kaksola we have 10 different berries to pick during summer and autumn.

Kaksola at the Viuruniemi village is a typical small North Karelian farm surrounded by forests and with great views of the lake Juojärvi. The Kaksonen fanily has owned the farm over 130 years. Lake Juojärvi is considered one of the cleanest lakes of the country. The farm is also known for wild flowers and a little herb garden with over 50 species of culinary and medicinal herbs. There are also a few interesting old outbuildings on the farm.

The guided tour of the farm start point is the small farm museum with old vintage and antique items telling their story of the life and history of the Kaksonen family from 1884. The owner of the farm is a direct descendant of them. A p.y.o strawberry punnet of 500 g is included in the price. Snacks and juice (or soft drinks) are served after the tour.

About Maaret - the Doer

Kaksola is an open farm and a summer paradise. We want to show our farm to visitors and share amazing experiences on North Karelian berry farming, the Nordic summer and Finnish nature.

As we follow the farm trail on foot, sensible shoes are a must. Prepare for a rainy weather, too.
