What are we going to do

Experience and feel the story of an authentic local knitwear. Luotolainen tikkuri, or Tikkuröijy is from the island of Hailuoto, where women have knitted a shirt for men. Until about 10 years ago, there was concern about the continuation of this skill, but no more! The exceptional year inspired the Finns to stick to the needles and now the sucker is knitted all over Finland and worldwide. In our exhibition you can feel the atmosphere of making traditional knitwear, the softness and warmth of Finnish wool and the enthusiasm created by tradition for the creation of new products.

Many years ago, on the island of Hailuoto, lived a young boy and girl. These dear friends were inseparable, connected at the soul. As they grew older, their paths led them apart; he went off to war, and she would marry another man. As a token of their affection, she knit a Luotolainen sweater for him. This was his most prized treasure. He lived in solitude for the rest of his life, but his Luotolainen sweater he never gave up. It was worn and mended for over 45 years—until the day he died. The Luotolainen is a remembrance of eternal friendship and longing. The original sweater from this legend is located in the handicraft museum in Jyväskylä, Finland (Käsityön museo). It is estimated to be about 100 years old.

Olipa mielenkiintoinen retki aidossa aavetalossa. Oli tosi mielenkiintoista kuulla tarinoita kaupungin vaiheista ja samalla henkilöiden elämäntarinoita. 5 tähteä ***** eli maksimi 👏
