What are we going to do

We pick you up from your hotel and drive to our office in HaparandaTornio Resecentrum/Matkakeskus. There you are given basic information on the experience and security instructions. We then depart towards Kukkolaforsen, Sweden (about 20 minutes drive).
Once arrived, you will be introduced to the history of Kukkola Rapids, where a unique village of fishermen was settled long time ago.
The river Torne has played a major role in the local everyday life, being both means of transport and food source for the villagers: today wild whitefish and salmons are still caught during summer with bag nets from boats or small jetties. You will be able to try your luck at catching some fish in this wonderful setting, with traditional methods. A local guide will assist you to be able to do things in a safe and fun way.
During the guided tour, you will be walked through the traditional settlement: in the Timber Smoke Hut, you will hear about the fishing traditions and see how whitefish grilling has been done for centuries. You will also learn about the sawmill and the mill history, visit the six wooden sheds, the ice-shed, the office and the two flour mills, respectively dating back to 1840 and to 1850s. The guided tour ends with a visit to the small but very interesting fishing museum, where we will tell you all about how this place’s fishing traditions have evolved throughout history.
We will then have time for lunch in the wonderful riverside restaurant, followed by some free time.
Eventually, we drive back to your hotel in HaparandaTornio(approximately 20-30 minutes).
