What are we going to do

Jyväskylä is the birth place of education in Finnish. In the latter half of the 19th Century the town was a flourishing centre of the Finnish Movement of language, culture, and education. The grounds for Finnish music education were laid in Jyväskylä, the first choir concerts and music festivals in Finnish were held in Jyväskylä, and a vast amount of childrens, Christmas and choir songs were written in Jyväskylä. Many of those have almost received a status of folk songs.

The stories are told in Lounaispuisto Park and the protected old campus area of the University of Jyväskylä. The tour includes only a moderate amount of walking.

About Opas-Outi - the Doer

I went to school and to the university in Jyväskylä, worked elsewhere for years but came back. As an authorized local guide, a sociologist and an active choir singer in the oldes Finnish singing female choir I have a wide knowledge of Finnish and local culture, history and developments.
